Qualifications
Lois is
Lois qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 1992 when she graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University with a BSc in Clinical Language Sciences (Speech and Language Therapy).
In 2007 Lois gained her Post Graduate Early Years Professional Status. (now equivalent to Early Years Teacher Status) from Worcester University.
Experience
Lois has worked for the NHS in both Warrington and Worcestershire.
Lois has a range of experience with children of all ages in a wide variety of settings including:
Community Clinics Child Development Centres Special Schools (Primary and Secondary)
Mainstream Schools Nurseries / Preschools Domiciliary (Home) visits
Specialist Units (e.g. for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder)
Lois also has many years experience working with Adults with Learning Disabilities within a College for Further Education and now within the community.
Lois first set up in independent practice in 1998, in conjunction with her NHS career. Lois was based in 2 privately run nurseries where she was also Deputy Manager. She later took on the role as Nursery Manager. Lois stopped her independent practice temporarily when she had her son in 2008.
After returning from maternity leave in 2009 Lois worked one day a week for the Worcestershire Health and care NHS trust specialising with Older Adults living with Dementia within the community, including those living with Early Onset Dementia. The rest of her time has was spent focusing upon her role as Manager of the nurseries and Speech and Language Therapy Consultant for the nurseries.
In January 2017 the nursery was sold to a new owner and Lois left her role as manager.
Lois is currently working as a Speciaist Speech & Language Therapist for the NHS in Worcester two days a week. She is now working back with the Learning Disabilities team for adults in the South Worcestershire team.
She has also returned to offering an independent Speech and Language Therapy service for children of all ages, adults with learning disabilities, people living with dementia and Primary Progressive Aphasia. NB This has pivoted and become an ONLINE service only.
Lois also home educates her son. They follow an unschooling / self directed approach to learning.
Lois is keen to support other home educating parents with their concerns regarding their children’s Speech and Language development.
PLEASE NOTE: Lois does NOT offer assessment or advice regarding dysphagia (eating, drinking or swallowing) as part of this service.
